Home Paintings Delene Lambert

Delene was born in Harare, Zimbabwe. She attended school there and after leaving school she worked, then met her husband Tom. They lived on a farm near the town of Chivhu until 2001 with her two sons and her husband. Then in 2002, they were given 24 hours notice by the “war veterans” to leave their home. They lost everything which they had to leave behind, and moved to Harare where they stayed till 2007. Finding it the rate of inflation so high it made it impossible to do any business and therefore decided to make a new life in South Africa.

Her husband started a job in Lephalale (Ellisras) and that is where they now reside on a game farm where she draws her inspiration from the wildlife. Delene feels that during these difficult times it was her art that kept her sanity. They were part of a conservancy in Chivhu so wildlife has always been a big part of her artwork. She spends hours taking photographs of the animals at the waterholes, and then paints them on canvas and this gives her an opportunity to capture the dust and heat.

Delene likes to describe herself as a “colour artist” as she loves to create just the right shade in her paintings. Her medium is oil paints because of the richness of the colours. She has had no formal training and has taught herself how to capture the essence of animals in their natural habitat.

Delene has held several exhibitions.

Prints are available on Canvas, Fine Art Paper, Coffee Mugs or T Shirts.
